New workout clothes make me want to workout :)

If you read yesterday’s blog, you’ll already know I went to the States for a shopping trip. If you didn’t, go back and read it then come back here. :)

I have a thing for workout clothes much to my husbands chagrin. Tanks, fitness bras, running socks – yes socks,  running tops, long running tights-winter and summer of course, capri length tights; oh I could go on. My closet is looking like an outlet store. There’s just something about the way a new fitness item makes me feel, like a new sense of fit purpose. Not that I was in a slump but, well, the item says “take me for a run, come on, you know you want to” and I have to jump into the outfit and go. Surprisingly I run better/workout harder with the new clothes. I use the purchase of new workout clothes as my reward for making healthy choices in my food and fitness. It motivates me and I deserve it! (my husband may disagree).

So I went to the Nike Outlet in Burlington and tried to contain my excitement. I tried on a dozen things all the while listening to my husband pace outside the dressing room, frantically calculating what I had brought into the change room. $$$$$ I’m not crazy and we do stick to a budget so I chose the 2 items I liked best. Ok 3, but the last one just slipped onto the counter and what was I supposed to do…put it back? Pfft, umm no, how insulting to the cashier…I joke…but not really! In my defense re the 3rd item it was brought to the change room by Jeff who said “this will look good on you” so I didn’t want to insult him by putting it back, right? I settled on long grey running tights, a blue and black tank and a pretty pink swirly tank which matches my tights, of course!

don't they just cry out "let's go for a run!"

I will wear these tomorrow, my scheduled run day. Now if it were nicer out I would pair it with:

love the racer back and that it matches my new tights :)

But alas, it is still chilly out here on Vancouver Island so I will reserve this tank for treadmill runs. This is the tank my husband picked- he doesn’t like prints ;)

same style. these tanks fit perfectly,

So now I have more mix and match items to motivate me.  All in all these purchases cost $70.97, I shop the clearance racks! Not bad considering one pair of tights at a retail shop will run you (no pun intended haha) roughly $79.99.

Now I need to continue my wonderful, joyful, liberating journey in food and fitness and work up to another reward…shh don’t tell Jeff ;)

Do you find new workout gear motivating?

Our 23 hour cross border shopping trip :)

My husband and I decided that since I had a 4 day weekend we may as well get out of dodge for a change of scenery so we headed to Bellingham US. No small feat since we live on Vancouver Island which means we drive 1 hour to the ferry, 2 hours to cross then 30 minutes from Vancouver to the border and another 25 minutes to Bellingham…and then we got to do it all again today! :-/

on BC Ferries from Vancouver Island to Vancouver enroute to the States

I was determined to remain mindful of my food choices especially since I was doing a lot of sitting! We did indulge in a burger at Bob’s Burger’s in Birch Bay but we split the meal as usual so the calorie count was lower than it could have been. I drank water throughout the drive and did not have any unhealthy snacks. We shopped a little then picked up a spinach salad and ate that in the hotel room. I was tired but I did a workout anyway and felt so good afterward.

this is the workout I did last night in our hotel room ;)

The hotel we stay at has a complimentary continental breakfast…you know the ones; pastries, sugary cereal, extra large fat filled muffins! Luckily it also has packets of oatmeal and bananas which is what I chose. The oatmeal packets tend to be high in sodium but a better choice than a pastry!

A good choice considering my options were calorie laden pastries etc :)

We did a little more shopping – Nike Outlet – I’ll show you my new running outfit tomorrow- and then we went to Trader Joe’s! I love that store, probably because we don’t have one and also because it has mostly (if not all) organic, non GMO food products. We spent quite a bit there…mostly healthy items like almond meal, nut butters, honey.

Our Trader Joe spending spree!

and the outrageous bill to go with it! Jeff almost choked! lol

finally found almond meal...gonna make some protein balls this weekend! good trail mix ingredients too :)

We did pick up a few frozen items like Eggplant Parmesan, convenient for busy nights after work. Most things were healthy choices even the 72% Fair Trade organic dark chocolate! My husband somehow slipped cans of beer into the cart while I was chasing down some brussel sprouts ;) . We bought the most delicious lentil wrap I have ever tasted to split for lunch and were on our way back home before home knew we were  gone!

All in all, a good getaway but happy to be home. Oh and BC Ferries if you’re listening? Please lower your fares so we can get off the island without going broke…$79.00 each way?!? come on…sigh…
