August 1st already! OMG where did the time go!?! Time seems to be zipping by at lightening speed and no matter how much I try to slow my life down it doesn’t seem to make a difference. :/ By slowing down I mean, growing our own vegetables, biking to work, eating local foods from local farms as much as possible…yet still here we are at August 1st!
As I scroll through the facebook pages all I see are posts about “it’s August 1st what is your goal this month? Weight loss goals, clean eating goals, lifting goals, etc, etc, etc. It got me thinking, what goal should I be setting…see now therein lies my problem, as soon as I think with the word “should” I get my knickers in a knot! It gets my back up and I get defensive…weird I know, but I never did say I was normal!
It’s not like anyone is telling me I should! Phew, I have such battles with myself all the time! .
I feel if you set a goal to say, `lose 5 lbs by Sept 1st` and then you don`t, it gives you a negative feeling of failure and loss of control. However, if you say `my goal is to clean up my diet by 50% by Sept 1st` then that gives you a sense of control and purpose that will be longer lasting than the 5 lb weight loss that you would probably use bad habits to attain. My point is people, anytime you set a goal, make it reasonable and healthy. Be focused on good health and a positive attitude over Ì must do this thing or I am a gigantic boob!`
Anyway, I’m not much of a goal setter but I did start thinking about what I have achieved thus far this year
I wanted to run more- check
I wanted to grow a garden- check
I wanted to bike to work- check
I wanted to eat cleaner- check
I wanted to build muscle- check
I wanted to start a blog!- check!!!
I wanted to reduce stress- kinda, sorta, maybe?- hmmm…ok, still working on that one :/
So far I have done what I set out to do, (except the stress thingy) Ok, one could say those were goals…so hmmm, I guess I do set goals but I don’t ever give myself an end date so I guess that’s the difference with others who set a timed goal. Make sense?
So, IF I were to set a goal for August I would have to say I want to do more lifting. Weight lifting that is…I do a lot of body weight workouts from which I have seen positive results. I have no aspirations of being a fitness model…couldn’t even type that with a straight face! So I figure if I increase my weighted workouts to twice weekly I could build a little bit more muscle and this in turn would benefit my running, which is my first love ♥…oh and I`d get to eat even more food than I already do
WEEOOO!
do you set goals
how does it affect you when you do not attain your goals
in positive goal setting and health
Denise ♥
