Yah, you remember them, you probably owned a pair yourself…those multi-colored socks that went up to your knees with individual multi-colored toes! I begged my mother to buy them for me as a young teen and she did…and I HATED them! They felt weird and my toes looked weird!
I didn’t wear them once…poor mom :/.
Flash ahead a dozen years…OK fine, 34 years, whatever, :p. I participated in a 5K Virtual Summer Fun Run, which you can read about here -http://fitpsychology.com/?m=20120622 that was offering great prizes and I was lucky enough to win one of them.
My prize turned out to be? Toe Socks! My first reaction was ‘great, toe socks, why toe socks’. Oh well, at least I won something
I received not one but 4 Pairs of Injingi ”The Original Performance Toesock” and decided I must do a giveaway
. (I gave one pair to my ultra running son which he loved as he has Vibram Five Fingers). First though I would have to try them out and the memory of my earlier toe sock experience left me doubtful that I would like them, especially for running!!! When they arrived in the mail I put them on right away to find that…blech, they felt weird. I wanted to give them a chance so I wore them around for the night as suggested on the packaging…yes they come with instructions hahaha. And I quote “Be patient with your first wear and allow your feet to adjust” I kept them on even though my toes felt uncomfortable and then kinda forgot about them. That’s when I realized these socks were comfortable!
Next was the real test, a run! I slipped on my runners and after some adjustments…to loosen the fabric pulling the skin between my toes, I was ready. Long story short? I LOVE how the Injingi socks feel while running, or rather how my toes feel when running!!! I didn’t really think I would appreciate my liberated toes but man it made a difference for me. I felt like I was almost able to ‘grip’ the trail with my toes as I ran and it gave me a sense of freedom in my foot motion I haven’t felt before. Sounds extreme doesn’t it? But it’s not an overstatement! I can now say I LOVE toe socks and I no longer think they are WEIRD lol.
The socks were sent directly to me from the Injinji company so when I thanked ‘Jeff’ for the extras, I had to laugh at his response: ”No problem! I hope your toes enjoy the privacy from each other.” hahaha…good one Jeff! Oh and Jeff, if you read this…I NEED THESE Toesocks!
